A Live Photo combines a still image with a short motion recording. This Live Photo maker gives the two files a shared identifier and marks the cover frame inside the video, so compatible Apple software can read them as a pair.
A cover worth keeping
The JPG comes from the middle of your selected clip. It becomes the still image for the Live Photo, so choose a moment where your subject is clear and in frame.
Motion with the moment
The MOV contains a 1–3 second H.264 clip and keeps source audio when available. GIFs remain silent. Original proportions are preserved, with the longest edge capped at 1280 pixels.
Your files stay with you
The Live Photo converter processes media inside this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, no watermark is added, and the original file stays unchanged on your device.
How to make a Live Photo from video or GIF
The Live Photo maker follows the same three steps whether you start with a camera clip, a saved animation, or an AI-generated video.
Choose your video or GIF
Select an MP4, MOV, WebM, or GIF up to 50 MB. The browser downloads the converter on first use, then reads your file locally.
Choose a short moment
Set a start time and a length from 1 to 3 seconds. Three seconds is a useful starting point; shorter clips can suit quick gestures. GIFs repeat to fill the chosen length.
Preview and download the pair
Create the Live Photo, check the motion preview and cover, then download the ZIP. Keep the JPG and MOV together when importing into compatible Photos software.
How to convert live wallpaper clips for iPhone
Creating the files and adding them to your photo library are separate steps. Follow this Live Photo maker download with a pairing-aware import, then check the result on your device.
- 1
Keep the pair together
Unzip the download. The JPG and MOV share a filename and must remain together. A MOV by itself is a video, and a JPG by itself is a still photo.
- 2
Import as a Live Photo
Use an importer that accepts paired Live Photo resources. On a Mac, try importing both files together into Photos, then verify the LIVE badge and motion before syncing to iPhone. If they appear separately, use a pairing-aware importer; saving two files separately from Files is not enough.
- 3
Check your Lock Screen
Once the Live Photo is in Photos, choose Settings → Wallpaper → Add New Wallpaper → Photos → Live Photo. On iOS 17 or later, supported Live Photos can play when you wake the screen. Wallpaper eligibility varies by clip and device; a valid Live Photo does not guarantee wallpaper animation.
Choose a clip that makes a better Live Photo
Small, readable movement usually works well in a short clip. This Live Photo maker converts the motion already in your file; it does not invent missing frames or sharpen a blurry original.
Portraits, pets, and memories
Choose a smile, a head turn, or a pet looking at the camera. Keep the subject visible around the middle of the clip, where the cover image is captured.
GIFs and illustrated loops
A short, smooth GIF makes an easy starting point. The GIF to Live Photo conversion repeats short animations to fill your chosen duration, without adding sound.
Clips for a phone wallpaper
Start with a portrait clip if you want to fill a phone screen. The tool preserves your framing instead of stretching or cropping it. Prepare your crop before converting if a wide clip leaves too much empty space.
